National Clinician Scholars Program (NCSP)
In an effort to strengthen the Health Services and Policy Research Pillar, 海角社区 remains focused on developing capacity in the areas of health services and health policy research by supporting and recruiting key faculty. UHI has partnered with UCLA and The National Clinical Scholars Program (NCSP) to support these efforts.
The NCSP is designed to develop physicians who can lead medicine into an era of consumer- and community-responsive evidence-based healthcare delivery, enabled by appropriate health policy. NCSP is a post-residency training initiative where early career physicians and nurses participate in an intensive, highly-customized two-year program that places them in community settings to conduct priority research that will directly benefit the health of Southern California communities.
The program aims to create the next generation of leaders and change agents to understand and improve health. The breadth of public and private partnerships makes the UCLA-NCSP a truly inter-professional endeavor, both within 海角社区 and beyond.
Student Opportunities to Advance Research (SOAR)
The SOAR program is a team-based student research training program in 5 key research areas: (1) Cancer, (2) Cardio-metabolic, (3) HIV/AIDS, (4) Mental Health, and (5) Health Policy. The SOAR program focuses on addressing health disparities to achieve health equity.

Students participate in trainings to gain knowledge and skills on how to conduct research. These trainings include topics such as 鈥淩esearch Fundamentals鈥, and 鈥淩esearch Methodology鈥. Students are exposed to research including careers in biomedical research.
This exposure motivates students to pursue higher education and eventually pursue careers in medicine and science. Students develop an abstract and a poster. Students present their research findings at the Annual Student Research Day hosted by the Urban Health Institute.
